Chapter One : The Bullet
————————————————————
"LUCY GRAY! I SAID ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?!?" Snow's voice was filled with rage, the recent snake bite was seeping venom into his veins. The pain was agonizing, shooting up his arm and digging his vision. Searching around for the gun that laid on the ground near him he began to stand. "Lucy...." He began to speak, his words becoming a slurring mess. Steading himself on a nearby tree, his head began to pound. Loud groans emerged from his throat, that's when he heard it, the soft call.... Lucy.
Quickly he ran after the sound, but it darted away, behind him now. Surely she couldn't move that fast, or maybe the venom was messing with his brain. Hallucinations. Still he turned, following the sound frantically. It moved every time he got close, darting behind him, above him, beside him, to back in front of him. Now there was more than one voice. A flock almost....birds! They were jabberjays, or so he thought. He fixed his attention to the sky, shooting rounds up into the trees. He hit a few, and they came spinning down. The voices depleted. But still they continued. The song changed.
The venom was setting in, harder than before. The pain in his arm was gone but it now spread to his chest, his stomach, his legs, even his feet seemed to be on fire. But still he pursued forward. The voice was alone again, and not changing its direction. Was she clearly giving herself away? The woman he thought he could trust, surely he had her fooled right? Then what caused her to run so suddenly, he knew she was smart but definitely not smarter than him. He proved to be right in this one. He has sight of her now, or so he hoped, it could still be a hallucination. She was sitting alone, singing out to the animals that surrounded her. Snakes, birds, rabbits.
First he shot the rabbit, dinner at least. Lucy now knew he was there. Quickly she tried to make a run for it, but Snow was quicker. Shooting a bullet into her arm, a loud shriek erupting the quiet forest surrounding them. But still she ran, so next he made a move he didn't particularly favor. He shot her in the leg, near her ankle. This caused her to go down. Screaming and weeping, crying out to anyone that may be able to hear. But she knew as well as Snow did, there was no one around. Slowly he approached, his gun still raised to shoot her dead at any moment. "Please..." Was the only word that escaped her lips, the tremble in her body, the pleading look in her eyes. Snow knew he could not kill her, for as much as he had planned too, he just could not. But surely now that he shot her, she would never stay with him. Never agree to any of his ideas or suggestions for a life in the Capitol. Setting all these thoughts away he grabbed the arm he did not shoot. And began to drag her back towards the cabin.
"Coryo please, I'm going to bleed out, I think you hit an artery, the ground is dirty Coryo, I'm going to get an infection..." Her pleas continued on, but Snow refused to listen. He was thinking again. He forgot to pick up the rabbit he shot in order to alarm Lucy Gray. Now the meat for dinner was gone. He couldn't trust her again to forage for plants, no that would have to be something he learned to do on his own, or maybe supervise her. But then runs the risk of her poisoning him, he didn't know a single thing about plants, but I would definitely take some time before she came back to the Capitol with him. Eventually they reached the cabin, the rain had stopped but it was still cold. He could feel his body shivering, plus the addition of the venom wasn't too great.
Kicking open the cabin door, he dragged Lucy inside. Bolting it immediately, he threw his gun on the single bed that occupied the small space. He let go of Lucy, turning to her on the floor. Her body was shivering as well, and a mix of dirt and blood caked her leg. Her arm wasn't so bad, she had managed to cover it with a part of her shirt as he drug her through the woods. The venom was still giving him a major headache, and his body was starting to cramp. Surely Lucy knew how to fix this, otherwise he would die tonight and she would escape.
"You help me, and then I'll help you." He simply stated. Lucy nodded slowly.
