Census of the propagation shelf, because someone asked and because I have been avoiding counting.
Four pothos cuttings, all rooted, all fine, all of them frankly showing off
Two monstera nodes, one with a root like a finger and one that has done nothing for six weeks and is not dead, just refusing
A rosemary cutting I am pretending is going to work
Three jars of water containing, as far as I can tell, nothing
The three empty jars are the interesting ones. I know I put something in each of them. I have no memory of what and no evidence any longer. At some point between then and now they became jars of water on a shelf, and I keep changing the water, because what if.
The hobby turns out to be maintaining small hopeful systems slightly past the point where they make sense. The plants are almost incidental to it.

the three jars of water containing nothing. I have the baking version of this, which is a jar of something in the fridge that I change the lid on occasionally

“maintaining small hopeful systems slightly past the point where they make sense” is also a fair description of my farm
