Took apart a cardigan today that was beyond saving and got four good balls of wool out of it.

It is a strange thing to do to a piece of clothing. You find the seam, you find the one thread that is holding the whole shoulder together, and if you pull it in the right direction the entire garment comes back to being yarn in about twenty minutes. If you pull it in the wrong direction you get nine hundred small pieces and a lesson.

The bit I did not expect

Whoever made it had mended it first. There is a patch on the inside of the left elbow, done in a slightly wrong green, quite neatly, by somebody who was not trying to make it invisible. It was in the charity shop because it finally gave out somewhere else entirely.

So this wool has been a cardigan, then a mended cardigan, and is now four balls in a bag waiting to be something else. I have not decided what. It feels rude to rush it.
